Iberian Lynx
Lynx pardinus

The Iberian lynx lives mainly in Mediterranean scrubland, open woodland, and mosaic habitats of southwestern Spain and Portugal. It is a solitary ambush hunter that relies on cover, patience, and sudden acceleration to catch prey, especially European rabbits. Adults also take birds, rodents, and young ungulates when available, but rabbit abundance strongly shapes their survival. Once one of the world’s rarest cats, it has become a major conservation recovery success while still depending on protected habitat and healthy prey populations.
