Giant Leopard Moth Caterpillar
Hypercompe scribonia (caterpillar)
This woolly caterpillar lives on low-growing plants, shrubs, and trees in woodland edges, gardens, and open fields. It feeds on the leaves of many broadleaf plants, often remaining hidden among foliage during the day. When disturbed, it curls into a ball and exposes its dense black bristles, which can irritate would-be predators.
