Giant Leopard Moth Pupa
Hypercompe scribonia (pupa)

The pupa rests in leaf litter, beneath loose bark, or among sheltered plant debris in the same terrestrial habitats used by the caterpillar. It remains still inside a thin cocoon reinforced with the caterpillar's discarded bristles and does not feed during this stage. Its protected casing and hidden position help it survive while its body transforms into an adult moth.
