Common Swift Hatchling
Apus apus (hatchling)

A newly hatched Common Swift is a tiny, blind chick tucked deep inside a nest in a roof space, wall crevice, or cliff cavity. It depends entirely on adults bringing compact balls of flying insects and spiders gathered in the air. When cool weather reduces food, the chick can slow its metabolism and survive short periods without feeding. Its main defenses are staying hidden and remaining low in the nest.
