Common Swift

Apus apus

Common Swift

The adult Common Swift is an extreme aerial specialist found over towns, cliffs, fields, and wetlands wherever flying insects are abundant. It feeds, drinks, mates, and may even sleep on the wing, landing mainly to nest in cavities. Its diet is made up of tiny airborne insects and spiders caught in a wide gape during fast flight. A notable fact is that non-breeding individuals can remain airborne for months at a time.
