Fire Salamander Juvenile
Salamandra salamandra (juvenile)

Juveniles leave the water after metamorphosis and shelter under moss, logs, stones, and damp leaf litter in humid woodland. They feed on small invertebrates such as springtails, tiny worms, and insect larvae, emerging most often on wet nights. Their black-and-yellow warning pattern is already visible, but their bodies are smaller and more vulnerable to drying than adults. This stage marks the shift from an aquatic larva to a secretive terrestrial predator.
