Saltwater Crocodile Juvenile
Crocodylus porosus (juvenile)

Juvenile saltwater crocodiles range through creeks, mangrove channels, floodplains, and sheltered estuaries as they grow large enough to hunt more boldly. Their diet expands to fish, crabs, frogs, birds, and small mammals taken from the bank or in shallow water. They rely heavily on ambush, floating almost motionless before lunging with a fast snap of the jaws. At this age they may disperse long distances to avoid larger crocodiles and find unclaimed feeding areas.
