Serviformica Ant Larva
Formica fusca (larva)
This pale, legless larva lives hidden inside soil nests, under stones, or in decaying wood chambers tended by adult workers. It cannot forage for itself and is fed regurgitated liquid food and pieces of small invertebrate prey. Its main behavior is to curl and wriggle when handled, relying on the nest and caretakers for protection. A notable fact is that ant larvae help recycle protein within the colony by growing rapidly on food gathered by workers.
