Serviformica Ant Drone
Formica fusca (drone)

The drone develops in the colony nest but leaves it during warm, suitable weather for a mating flight. It feeds on sugary liquids such as nectar, honeydew, and food shared within the nest before its brief adult flight period. Its large eyes and wings help it locate queens in the air, while it does not forage or defend the colony like a worker. A notable fact is that male ants usually die soon after mating and do not take part in rearing brood.
