Eurasian Curlew Chick
Numenius arquata (chick)

A downy, precocial chick found in open moorland, wet grassland, and rough pasture where it can leave the nest soon after hatching. It feeds by picking tiny insects and other invertebrates from vegetation and damp ground under parental watch. Its mottled brown down is strong camouflage, and freezing flat against the ground is one of its main defenses. At this stage it cannot fly, relying on stillness, running, and cover to survive.
