Common Wasp Pupa
Vespula vulgaris (pupa)

Common wasp pupae develop inside capped cells of the nest, wrapped in a protective silken covering made at the end of the larval stage. They do not feed and remain mostly still while the adult body, legs, wings, and sting finish forming. Their main defence is the shelter of the nest cell and the toughness of the sealed cap. This stage is the quiet transformation point between the pale grub and the active flying wasp.
