Common Wasp Drone
Vespula vulgaris (drone)

Common wasp drones are males produced late in the season, usually when an established colony begins raising new queens and males. They fly away from the nest to seek and mate with virgin queens, feeding mainly on nectar, honeydew, and other sugary liquids rather than hunting prey for larvae. Drones may gather around suitable mating areas and are often seen cruising in open, sunny places. A notable fact is that males have no sting, so they cannot deliver the venomous defence used by female wasps.
