House Crow Hatchling

Corvus splendens (hatchling)

House Crow Hatchling

Newly hatched House Crows are blind, mostly bare-skinned, and completely dependent on their parents in a tree nest near human settlement. They cannot fly or forage, instead raising their heads and calling when adults arrive with insects, scraps, or other soft food. Their main defence is staying low in the nest and relying on parental protection. A notable feature is how quickly they begin using sound and gape displays to trigger feeding.
