Common Kestrel
Falco tinnunculus

An adult common kestrel is a small falcon of open country, farmland, moorland, cliffs, and urban edges across much of Europe, Asia, and Africa. It hunts mostly voles, mice, large insects, and small birds, often hovering into the wind before dropping onto prey with its talons. Its sharp eyesight can detect ultraviolet traces in vole urine, helping it find active hunting areas. Though compact, it is highly agile and defends nesting ledges with fast dives and loud calls.
