Common Kestrel Fledgling

Falco tinnunculus (fledgling)

Common Kestrel Fledgling

A newly flying young kestrel spends time near the nest site, practicing short flights, landings, and balance on exposed perches. It still begs loudly from the adults but begins learning to watch grassland, farmland, and roadside edges for prey. Its early hunts are clumsy, often aimed at insects and easy targets before it masters hovering and stooping. This stage is vulnerable to poor weather, starvation, and ground predators while flight skills develop.
