Common Kestrel Nestling
Falco tinnunculus (nestling)

A downy chick that stays hidden in a ledge, tree hole, or nest box while the adults bring food. It feeds on torn pieces of small mammals, insects, and birds delivered to the nest rather than hunting for itself. Its main defenses are staying low, calling for food, and huddling against cold or danger. Even before flight, the hooked beak and growing talons show its future as a small falcon.
