Black Vulture Hatchling
Coragyps atratus (hatchling)

A newly hatched black vulture is a downy, helpless chick in a tree hollow, cave ledge, abandoned building, or other sheltered nest site. It depends entirely on regurgitated food brought by its parents and cannot fly or thermoregulate well on its own. When threatened, it may crouch, hiss, or gape with its small hooked beak. Like other vulture chicks, it grows quickly on a rich diet of carrion delivered by adults.
