Black Vulture Nestling
Coragyps atratus (nestling)

A black vulture nestling is larger and more alert, still confined to the nest site while its feathers replace the pale down. It feeds on regurgitated carrion and spends much of the day resting, preening, and watching the nest entrance. If disturbed, it may hiss, lunge, or vomit foul-smelling food as a defense. Its wings are developing rapidly, but it is not yet capable of sustained flight.
