Spring Peeper
Pseudacris crucifer
A tiny tree frog of damp woodlands, marsh edges, and temporary spring pools across eastern North America. It climbs low vegetation with adhesive toe pads and feeds on small insects, spiders, and other tiny invertebrates. Its high, bell-like peep is one of the earliest and loudest signs of spring, produced by males calling from wetland vegetation after thaw.
