Spring Peeper Tadpole
Pseudacris crucifer (tadpole)

This small tadpole develops in shallow, fish-free temporary pools, flooded woodland depressions, and marsh edges. It grazes algae, detritus, and microscopic organic material while swimming with a broad tail fin. Its dark, mottled body helps it blend into leaf-stained water, and it must complete metamorphosis before many seasonal pools dry.
