European Turtle-Dove
Streptopelia turtur

A slim migratory dove of open woodland edges, hedgerows, orchards, and mixed farmland across much of Europe and western Asia. It feeds mostly on small seeds from wild plants and crops, usually foraging on the ground and taking water frequently in dry weather. Its flight is fast and direct, and males display with soft purring calls and fluttering display flights. Notably, this species makes a long migration to sub-Saharan Africa and has suffered major population declines in many parts of Europe.
