Common Green Lacewing

Chrysoperla carnea

Common Green Lacewing

The adult is a delicate green insect found in gardens, hedgerows, meadows, and farmland, especially where flowering plants and aphid colonies are common. It flies mostly at dusk and night, feeding on nectar, pollen, and honeydew rather than hunting as aggressively as the larva. Its pale green body, golden eyes, and transparent net-veined wings make it easy to recognize. Adults may release an unpleasant odor when handled, a small chemical defense that helps deter predators.
