Common Green Lacewing Pupa

Chrysoperla carnea (pupa)

Common Green Lacewing Pupa

The pupa rests inside a small silken cocoon attached to leaves, bark, or sheltered plant stems. It does not feed, instead using stored energy while its body reorganizes into the winged adult form. The cocoon gives it protection from weather and small predators, though it can still wriggle when disturbed. Near emergence, the mature pupa cuts its way out before the adult expands its delicate wings.
