Vine Weevil Pupa

Otiorhynchus sulcatus (pupa)

Vine Weevil Pupa

A soft, pale pupa resting in a small earthen cell below the soil surface. It does not feed, instead using stored energy from the larval stage while adult legs, antennae, and the snout-like head form. If disturbed, it can twitch or wriggle, but it is mostly immobile and protected by being hidden underground. This stage is a brief transition between the root-feeding grub and the hardened adult beetle.
