Ball Python
Python regius
Ball pythons are ground-dwelling snakes of West and Central African grasslands, savannas, and open forests, often sheltering in burrows or termite mounds. They are mostly nocturnal ambush predators that wait in cover for small mammals and birds before striking and constricting them. When threatened, they commonly coil into a tight ball with the head protected in the center, which gives the species its common name. This nonvenomous python is known for a calm defensive style rather than speed or aggression.
