Dyeing Poison Frog
Dendrobates tinctorius

The adult is a diurnal rainforest frog of the Guiana Shield region, usually moving over moist forest floor, roots, and fallen leaves. It feeds on small ants, mites, termites, and other tiny arthropods, gaining defensive alkaloids from its diet. Rather than hiding completely, it often relies on bold warning colors that advertise its toxic skin secretions to predators. Males give clear calls from the forest floor or low perches, and adults may care for tadpoles by carrying them to small water-filled sites.
