Common Eastern Froglet Tadpole

Crinia signifera (tadpole)

Common Eastern Froglet Tadpole

These tadpoles develop in shallow ponds, flooded grassland, ditches, and temporary pools after rain. They feed chiefly on algae, detritus, and tiny organic particles, using their mouthparts to graze surfaces. A strong tail provides rapid bursts of swimming when disturbed, and tadpoles may remain in the water for weeks before metamorphosis.
