Mandarinfish Larva
Synchiropus splendidus (larva)

Mandarinfish larvae drift in open coastal waters after hatching, remaining in the plankton. They feed on tiny zooplankton and use rapid tail movements to make short adjustments in the current. Their nearly transparent body helps make them difficult for visual predators to spot.
