Mandarinfish Juvenile
Synchiropus splendidus (juvenile)
Juvenile mandarinfish settle onto sheltered coral reefs and rubble areas as they grow. They hover close to the bottom, picking small crustaceans and other minute invertebrates from the substrate. Developing mottled colors and careful movements help them blend into the reef.
