Red-bellied Pacu Larva
Piaractus brachypomus (larva)

This newly hatched larva drifts in warm, slow-moving South American rivers and flooded margins. It feeds first on tiny planktonic organisms while sheltering among vegetation and suspended debris. A large yolk sac sustains it during its earliest days before active feeding becomes important.
