Dark Sword-Grass Pupa
Agrotis ipsilon (pupa)
This soil-buried pupal stage develops in fields, gardens, grasslands, and other open ground where the larva previously fed. It remains still in a small earthen chamber and does not feed while its body transforms into the adult moth. Its smooth, dark reddish-brown pupal case provides protection during this vulnerable underground stage.
