Sacred Scarab Beetle Pupa
Scarabaeus sacer (pupa)

This immobile pupal stage develops inside the buried dung brood ball in sandy soil or grazed ground. It does not feed, instead relying on reserves accumulated during its grub stage while its adult body forms. The pale pupa remains protected by the brood chamber and surrounding soil, where it is concealed from most surface predators. A notable feature is its transformation into a fully armored, winged adult while still enclosed underground.
