Peregrine Falcon
Falco peregrinus
An adult peregrine falcon lives in open country, coastlines, mountains, and cities where tall ledges overlook hunting space. It feeds mainly on other birds, caught after rapid aerial pursuit or a steep stoop from above. Adults defend nest sites with loud calls, fast passes, and talon strikes. Its most famous trait is its diving speed, which can exceed 300 km/h in a hunting stoop.
