Magnificent Sea Anemone Juvenile Polyp
Radianthus magnifica (juvenile polyp)

After settling on a firm reef surface, the juvenile polyp develops a small oral disc and a ring of short tentacles. It catches tiny zooplankton and suspended organic particles with adhesive, stinging cells. Juveniles stay attached in sheltered, well-lit shallows where currents carry food past them. At this stage, its tentacles are still too short to shelter the clownfish associated with mature anemones.
