Common Buzzard
Buteo buteo

Adult common buzzards live across much of Europe and parts of Asia in a mix of woodland, farmland, heath, and open country with good soaring conditions. They hunt by circling on thermals or waiting on a perch, then dropping onto small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, or carrion. Adults defend territories with mewing calls, display flights, and direct aerial pressure on intruders. A notable fact is that plumage varies greatly, from very dark brown birds to pale individuals with broad barred wings.
